Implicit Bias 101 with Jill Gaulding

Jill’s background lies in both law and cognitive science (that is, the study of how brains work) and she brings both topics together in her work on gender discrimination.  As a practicing lawyer, she has worked to modernize legal doctrine to better reflect what we’ve learned from cognitive science about why discrimination happens and how we can stop it.  She co-founded Gender Justice, a nonprofit that addresses the causes and consequences of gender inequality, both locally and nationally, through impact litigation, policy work and public education and training.

Implicit Bias in Federal Courts and Remedies with Judge Bernice Donald

Judge Donald was appointed by President Obama to serve on the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, becoming the first black woman to serve on that court.  A member of numerous professional associations, Judge Donald served as Secretary of the American Bar Association from 2008 to 2011 and was one of the 2011 recipients of the ABA Spirit of Excellence Awards.  She is Past- President of the Association for Women Attorneys and the National Association of Women Judges.

Implicit Bias in Law Firms and Institutional Remedies with Ida Abbott

Ida Abbott has been helping employers develop, manage and retain legal talent since 1995.  For many years, Ida has been at the forefront of efforts to promote women in the legal profession. She is co-founder and Director of the Hastings Leadership Academy for Women at the University of California Hastings College of the Law, where she is also a Faculty Fellow. She is on the Advisory Board of the New York Women’s Bar Association Foundation and was Bay Area Chair of the Women in Law Empowerment Forum.
